June 21st: It rained all night - and all day, here in Ocean Park-WA
I woke up listening to the raindrops tap-dancing across the roof overhead … and decided to make a quick stew for Supper 👍
I dug out one of the numerous 4Patriots survival food packets to utilize: being frugal people, Holland bought 2 huge food bins when we started our America Tour in 2023 - I broke all of them down into [couple sized] portions, and I'm still working through them 😉
The food packets are very basic, and that's okay … but we like hearty, tasty meals - so I flesh them out with meats & assorted flavorings.
Val's Upgraded 4Patriots Fireside Stew ~serves 6
1/2 packet of 4Patriots Fireside Stew dry mix * 1-lb. Hamburger * 1 can Mixed Vegetables, drained * 2 tsp. Paprika powder * 1/2 tsp. Turmeric powder * 1/2 tsp. grnd. Cumin * 1/4 tsp. grnd. Cayenne * 1/2 tsp. Marjoram leaves * pinch of Rosemary leaves * 1 tsp. Parsley * 1 Bay Leaf * 1 Red Onion, sliced * 2 cloves Garlic, sliced * 1 c. White Wine * 4 c. Water * 1 tea ball * 1 med.-size Soup Pot
1) In Soup pot, brown hamburger with onions & garlic.
2) Place Bay Leaf & Rosemary leaves in the tea ball & close lid tightly; place remaining ingredients (including tea ball) in the soup pot.
Bring mixture to a boil.
3) Boil stew for 5 minutes - then, reduce heat to medium-low, and continue cooking about 25 minutes … or until noodles, rice, and lentils are soft to the bite.
4) Ladle into bowls, and enjoy.
While the stew cooked, I worked on my WIP to the backbeat of raindrops beating a catchy tempo on Independence's roof.
Even though the peninsula's temperamental sky was heavy with gray clouds, all was pleasantly cozy in my small corner of the world, today.
