I like seasonal changes - right now, I'm focused on book covers 📏🧶✂️📚📘
I designed and crafted this book cove the other night; this particular crochet cover, is kinda chunky, & the design looks more complicated than it actually is.
This book cover comfortably fits a size 7-1/2-in x 4-in paperback novel.

Materials: Worsted Yarn, in color of choice; small amount of scrap yarn for a length of marker yarn; Sock Yarn, small amount in matching color (or contrast color if desired) #I-9 & #1 aluminum crochet hooks; scissors; tapestry needle; trim of choice (if trim is desired)

EA = each
EO = end off

With Bronze Brown yarn & crochet hook, make a chain of 59
Row 1: T & sc in 10 ch, place marker yarn, sc in next 38 ch, place marker yarn, sc in rem'g 10 sc; ch 1 & T
Row 2: Repeat R 1
Row 3: Sc in 10 st, move marker end up, *slip hook R to L under st of previous row & draw up a loop, yo & make dc in same sp, make a dc in next st*; rpt * - * across row, move marker end up, sc in rem'g 10 sc; ch 1 & T
Row 4 (WS): Sc in 10 st, move marker end up, drop Bronze Brown (do not cut - you will carry yarn up backside from now on), attach Red & sc across 38 sc, move marker end up, drop Red & attach 2nd ball of Bronze Brown & sc in rem'g 10 sc; ch 1 & T
Row 5 (RS): With Bronze Brown sc in 10 st, move marker end up, drop Brown & picking up Red, work 1dc in next st, then *slip hook R to L under st of previous row & draw up a loop, yo & make dc in same sp, make a dc in next st*; rpt * - * across row, move marker end up - drop Red, pick up Bronze Brown & sc in rem'g 10 sc; ch 1 & T

Row 13 (RS): With Bronze Brown sc in 10 st, move marker end up, drop Brown & picking up Orange, work 1dc in next st, then *slip hook R to L under st of previous row & draw up a loop, yo & make dc in same sp, make a dc in next st*; rpt * - * across row, move marker end up - drop Orange, pick up Bronze Brown & sc in rem'g 10 sc; ch 1 & T
Follow this pattern sequence - Rows 4 through 14, for 7-3/4 inches; checking now and then for length (every book is sized differently, even if quoted measurements are the same).
Top Edge: With Bronze Brown - sc in 10 st, move marker end up, sc across 38 sc, move marker end up, & sc in rem'g 10 sc; ch 1 & T
EO leaving a length of yarn for sewing flap to cover.
Finishing: With RS facing, fold 10 sts of the flap backward & whipstitch EA end closed - weave in loose ends. Turn flap inward to make a pocket to slip cover edge into (the worsted I used was light & tended to curl, so I worked a heavier weight sc around inside pocket edge - but, it is not necessary if your worsted does not curl).
Rpt with other cover flap, in same manner.
Page Marker: With #1 hook & sock yarn; attach yarn in center top of Book Cover, & make a ch of chosen length - attach trim (or not) & back chain to beginning ch. EO and weave in loose ends.
