Rainy Days call for comfort foods 🥘
This quick casserole hits the spot, & it's a snap to make because a boxed Au Gratin mix is used - just brown the 'burger, add a spice or two 🍃, and you can practically snap your fingers and have it done in no time at all 😉
Val's Au Gratin Potatoes W-Hamburger ~serves 4
1 Box Au Gratin Potatoes, dry packaged * 1-lb. Angus Hamburger * 1-1/2 c. Water * 3/4 c. Milk * 2-1/2 TBSP Margarine * 3 Garlic cloves, pressed * 1 Onion, sliced * 3/4 tsp. Thyme, dried * 1 Bay Leaf, medium-size
1 Med. Skillet * 1 Kitchen Spoon, slotted * 1 Kitchen Spoon, serving * 2 Quart Oblong Pyrex Baking Dish * 1 Garlic Press * 1 Lrg. Kitchen Knife * 1 Cutting Board * 1 Hot Pad * Measuring Spoons * 1 lrg. Pyrex Measuring Cup * 1 Sm. Whisk * 2 Tea Balls, chains removed * Supper Plates & Silverware
1) Preheat oven to 450-degrees.
2) In the skillet, place the onions & garlic; sauté until onions are transparent & the garlic is fragrant - add meat, and cook until the meat is browned.
3) Pour the water into the Pyrex measuring cup & microwave about 2 minutes, until it boils - carefully remove from microwave & place on the hot pad. Add to the boiling water, the thyme & the sauce packet that came with the boxed potatoes; whisk together until well blended.
4) Place the dehydrated potato slices into the baking dish - pour flavored water & add butter; stir to incorporate. Add milk & hamburger, gently stir to blend well. Break Bay Leaf in half, place each half into a tea ball - put tea ball into the blended ingredients.
5) Bake in preheated oven - uncovered - for about 25 minutes … or until top is golden brown & potatoes are tender. Remove from oven & let stand for about 5 minutes (sauce will thicken while it stands).
6) Serve, and enjoy.
