MOD Crochet Loopy Hair Tie

I made a handful of these little loopy crochet hair ties to match my clothing - as far as I know, they have not been designed or crafted before: and they are so simple to do, & make up very quickly.

This is a good way to use those little leftover balls of scrap yarn you can't seem to throw away ;-)

Materials: 1 Pkg. Goody Ouchless Elastic Hair Ties; Scrap balls of Worsted Yarn, in assorted colors; #G/6 aluminum crochet hook; Tapestry Needle; Scissors

Terms:

sc = single crochet

EO = end off

Row 1: With hook & color of choice, hold hair tie in left hand - pull a loop up from back to front & work 45 sc around hair tie.

Pull a loop up from back to front & work 45 sc around

Row 2: Work around tie as follows: *ch 5, sl st to front loop - ch 5, sl st to back loop* … follow this pattern around tie. In last st - sl st to front loop, remove hook & pull tail thru frontside to backside of work; tie neatly & securely. Trim yarn.

It's getting nippy, here, in WA State 😕; I used the electric blanket, last night 🔌🛌 & this morning I got out of bed thinking, "there's gonna be frost on the pumpkins, soon" - I also thought, "I need a Fall colored book cover 📚"; so, as soon as I prepared a cup of hot Jasmine tea … I got right on it 📝📏🧶✂️😉

Materials: Worsted Yarn, in Black, Orange, & Gold; small amount of scrap yarn for a length of marker yarn; Sock Yarn, small amount in matching color (or contrast color, if desired) #H Afghan hook & #1 aluminum crochet hooks; scissors; tapestry needle; trim of choice (if trim is desired)

Bottom Edging: With Black yarn & crochet hook, make a chain of 59

Row 1: T & sl st in 9 ch, place marker yarn, sc in next 32 ch, place marker yarn, sc in rem'g 9 sc - EO Black & attach  Orange; T

Row 2: Working across row, picking up 1 loop in ea st - attach Gold through last loop & drop Orange - DO NOT CUT YARN: at end of rows, you will carry yarn strands up back of work.

Row 3: Yo & draw yarn thru both loops x9 , moving marker end up, yo & draw yarn thru both loops x32, yo & draw yarn thru both loops x9 - DO NOT CUT YARN

Row 4: Slip head of hook under first 3 bars, yo & draw up a loop x2 - rpt across row, drawing up 1 loop in end st. Attach Orange through last loop & drop Gold.

Row 5:  With Orange, yo & draw yarn thru 1st gold loop, yo & draw yarn thru 2nd gold loop, yo & draw yarn thru last gold loop - rpt across row - DO NOT CUT YARN

Row 6: Work across row, picking up 1 loop in ea gold st - at end of row, drop Orange & pick up Gold through last st.

Row 7: Yo & draw yarn thru both loops x9 , moving marker end up, yo & draw yarn thru both loops x32, yo & draw yarn thru both loops x9 - NO NOT CUT YARN

Repeat Rows 4 thru 7 for pattern to a length of 7-1/4 inches; checking now and then for length (every book is sized differently, even if quoted measurements are the same); EO Orange & Gold, and attach Black.

Top Edging: With Black, work 2 rows of sl st; EO Black, leaving a length of yarn for sewing flap to cover.

Finishing: With RS facing, fold 9 sts of the flap backward & whipstitch EA end closed - weave in loose ends. Turn flap inward to make a pocket to slip cover edge into.

Rpt with other cover flap, in same manner.

Page Marker: With #1 hook & sock yarn; attach yarn in center top of Book Cover, & make a ch of chosen length - attach trim (or not) & back chain to beginning ch. EO and weave in loose ends.

Shifting things around the house, this evening - I noticed a bag of cotton yarn scraps 🧶 laying around, and got to thinking of how they could be used 🤔; that led me to designing ✍️ & crafting ✂️ several colorful pouches ✅ that I can slip my asthma inhaler into & attach to my wrist watch; matching my design to the clothing in my closet 👌

Each pouch take about a half hour to work up, & measures 2"x 2" with a 2-1/2" strap closure.

Materials: scrap balls of cotton yarn; #G hook; scissors; tapestry needle; small resin button.

Terms: 

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

st = stitch

sl st = slip stitch

EA = each

x = times (repeat)

rpt = repeat

EO = end off

1) Ch 16; jn

Ch 16 - size to make sure it fits your inhaler sheath; jn w-sl st.

2) Make 1 sc in EA back loop of foundation ch - this makes a nicely defined top edge (16 sc); jn - do not ch 1; turn. You will begin to work in rounds, now.

Make 1 sc in EA back loop of foundation ch

3) Make 1 sc in EA st; jn - do not ch 1; turn.

4) Sc x2, ch 4 - skip 3 sts, sc next st & following 10 sts (this is where the watch strap will pass through); jn - do not ch 1; turn.

5) Sc in EA st - including the back loops of EA ch; jn - do not ch 1; turn.

6) Rpt row 4; jn - do not ch 1; turn.

7 & 8) Sc in EA st; jn - do not ch 1; turn. EO

9) Ch 1, sc in EA next 2 sts; ch 1 & turn.

Strap: Rpt row 9 for a length of 2-1/2 inches (12 rows). EO with a 5-inch tail - thread through needle & tack to opposite end of strap, making a "pinky" sized loop for button to pass through.

Finishing: Sew button in place. Viola! 👌 Done and ready for your walk in the forest, along a beach, exploring small communities' ect. 😃
