Matthew 27:1-50: In the morning, all the chief pries & elders of the people schemed ways to put Yeshua to death: and led Him away, bound, to Pontius Pilate the governor.
Then Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that he was condemned & regretted what he had done - and went to return the thirty pieces of silver back to the chief priests & elders, saying, "I have sinned in what I have done in betraying innocent blood." But the chief priests & scribes rejected the silver pieces, saying, "We do not want the money, or your confession. Go away." Overcome by deep remorse, Judas threw the pieces of silver on the floor of the temple, and went out to hang himself. Then the chief priests took the scattered coins, and said, "It is not lawful to add them to the treasury money, because it is the blood money." So, they agreed together that the tainted money would be taken to the potter's field, to bury strangers in. And that is why - even today, that field is called The Field of Blood. And the ancient prophecy of Jeremiah was fulfilled, in which it was said, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of Him that the children of Israel valued; and gave it for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed." (Jeremiah 32:6-10 & Zechariah 11:12-13)
Then Yeshua stood before the governor: and the governor asked Him, saying, "Are you the King if the Jews?" And Yeshua answered, "You say it." When He was accused by the chief priests & elders, he said nothing. Then Pilate asked Him, "Do You not hear what is being said about You?" And seeing that Yeshua stayed silent; the governor was greatly surprised.
It was the season of the Passover festivities, and the governor was required to release a Jewish prisoner back to the Jewish people: there was a rebel folk hero in custody, named Barabbas. So, to the crowds gathered, Pilate asked them: "Who do you want that I should release to you? Yesua Barabbas … or Yeshua, which is called Messiah?" Pilate asked this direct question, because he knew that Yeshua had been spitefully handed into his custody. When Pilate was sat down on the governor's judgement seat, his wife sent him a note saying: [have nothing to do with that innocent man - for I have had many troubling dreams concerning Him]. But the chief priests & the elders pressed the gathering crowds to shout loudly for the release of Yehuda Barabbas … and to deny life for Yeshua, which is called Messiah. Then the governor rose and asked again who they would release: and they called out for Yesua Barabbas. Then Pilate asked what he should do with Yeshua, which is called Messiah: and they cried out loudly, "Let him be crucified!" Pilate asked the crowd why, for he knew Yeshua to be innocent of evil. But the crowd, being pressed by the religious leaders, raised their voices louder in shouts for His death. When Pilate saw that he could not change their minds - and that threat of a riot, was brewing, he washed his hands in water before the great crowds of people, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood; his blood is on your heads." And the people answered, "So be it: His blood be on us, & on our children." Then was Yesua Barabbas released. And Yeshua was taken onto the public square to be cruelly lashed with a multi-headed leather whip, which had metal balls, and bones, for tips. Then he was untied from the whipping post and prepared to be crucified.
The soldiers of the governor took Yeshua into the common hall, and were joined by the whole band of soldiers, by which He was stripped & draped with a scarlet robe. Then they braided a crown of thorns, and placed it on his head, and put a reed in His right hand … and bowed before Him, in mocking tribute, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" And they spit on Him, and grabbing the reed form His hand, beat him about the head. After they had finished with the mocking, the ripped the robe from his body & dressed Him again in His own clothing - and led Him away to be crucified.
As they were passing by, they saw a man of Cyrene, Simon by Name (from Cyrene, in North Africa, who was in Jerusalem for the Passover festivities) and forced him to carry Yeshua's cross. And when they had come to the place called Golgotha, that is say, a place of a skull - they gave to Yeshua a strong wine and bitter herbal mixture, intended to dull the pain of crucifixion: but He would not drink of it. They then hung Him on a cross & placed over his head, affixed to the cross, his accusation written: THIS IS YESHUA THE KING OF THE JEWS; and spread His garments, casting lots - that the ancient prophecy be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophetic Psalm 22, saying, "They parted My garments among them, and upon my clothing did they cast lots" (an ancient practice used to discern a chancy decision). And sitting down, they watched Him, there. There were also two thieves hanging on crosses - 1 on each side of Him.
And crowds of people passed by, mocking Him saying, "You that claimed to destroy the Temple and build it up again in 3 Days, save yourself. If You be the Son of God, come down from the cross." Likewise also did the chief priests - mocking Him with the scribes & elders, say, "He can save others; but Himself He cannot save. If He be the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in Elohim - let Elohim save him now: for he has said, 'I am the Son of God'". {{And 1 of thieves hanging on a cross beside him, said, "If you be the Messiah, save yourself & us" … but the other, rebuked the first, saying, "Do you not fear God? We are guilty of our crime; but this man has done nothing wrong." And turning towards Yeshua said, to Him, "Lord, remember me when You enter Your kingdom." Yeshua turning, said to him that spoke, "Be certain that today, you will be with Me, where I return to."~Luke 24:40-43}} Now from the sixth hour (the sixth hour refers to noon in the Jewish timekeeping system) there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour (refers to 3 PM the Jewish timekeeping system; also a time of prayer and sacrifice, as seen in Acts 3:1-10).
And about the ninth hour, Yeshua cried out in a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabach-thani?" which is to say, 'My God, My God, I not feel Your presence? (Yeshua, had at that point, became the sacrificial lamb taking on all the sins of the world: and the Father's presence cannot dwell where sin is).
Some of those that stood there, when they heard that, said, "This man calls for Elias" (a prophet of old, named Elijah = who, in Jewish tradition, is expected to return as the forerunner of the Messiah). And quickly, one of them ran to fill a spiked sponge with the pain dimming vinegar mixture - to give Him to drink. But he was halted, and told, "Let be, let us see if Elias will come to save him." Then did Yeshua cry out with a loud voice again, as the life giving spirit left his body.
