{{Secret Service reportedly takes down gunman outside White House after shots fired
The White House was placed on lockdown Saturday after shots were fired near the executive mansion, prompting a response from the U.S. Secret Service.
A male suspect, identified by multiple Fox News Digital sources as Nasire Best, 21, of Maryland, was fatally shot by U.S. Secret Service agents at about 6 p.m. ET Saturday after he allegedly opened fire with a pistol near a White House checkpoint.
President Donald Trump was unharmed inside the White House, and the gunman never breached the grounds' general perimeter.
An adult civilian bystander was shot during the gunfire exchange, and one U.S. Secret Service agent was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Best had prior encounters with the U.S. Secret Service on at least two occasions in 2025, and a history of mental health issues, sources said. The FBI, ATF and Metropolitan Police Department are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Sources said the suspect, who was shot by U.S. Secret Service agents, died on the way to GW Medical Center.
He allegedly had multiple prior encounters with the Secret Service and a history of mental health issues.
Best was detained by the Secret Service on June 26, 2025, for flagging down agents and making threats, and again on July 10, 2025, for entering a restricted area, Fox News has learned.

Finished reading that article, I tuned the world out & turned a blind eye to everything but watching a movie while we both finished our coffees & slowly woke all the way up.
Then we drove back into Castle Rock to get a few grocery items & enjoy a leisurely drive back home. We didn't plan on leaving the house again until after the Holiday - Holland's was wanting to avoid traffic snafu's … I'm okay with avoiding crowds of people.

Entering downtown Castle Rock, I asked Holland to let me off at the gravel dike trail a bit past the freeway off-ramp, saying I'd meet him at the store - a short walk away. I had mentioned this to him beforehand, so he wasn't surprised at the request.
I took my time walking because I wanted to enjoy the sunshine; and the store was not that far away.
I've always liked this small country town that reminds me of a Norman Rockwell picture. Strolling through it was very enjoyable. Holland is familiar with it to - when he was 14 years old, he once shared an apartment here with 2 of his older brothers before he left WA State to work in Louisiana (cowboy line rider & cow puncher), Texas (grounds guard for lineman machinery, All American Drywall for a hospital wing & oil field), Montana (oil field), North Dakota (oil field), & Oklahoma (oil field).

I saw him get out of the pickup as I was turning down the alley alongside the First Baptist Church - so, I picked up my speed and met him inside as he was walking through the veggies.
We gathered our food choices, payed & shifted them from cart to x4 cab … and I was off again, on foot - meeting him at the paved turnout where he'd let me out, earlier.
I moseyed along, taking my time; snapping pictures & vids. And he listened to his head throbbing hair bands, while keeping an eye on my progress, until I crested the hill.
I really like these apricot-hued, wild-looking, 5-petal rose climbers. Very appealing.
The pretty climbers were at the backside of the vintage jailhouse.
The edge of the table is a bit worn - but the rest of the table is artistically enhanced. I like it.

Not as lengthy as I used to walk - but something is better than nothing.
Heart rate is in the safe zone.
We got a Burger King supper on the way home & watched a big white butterfly flirt with Betsy's windshield - we'd seen these butterflies e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e. we'd gone during our day out … but I was so captivated by the size of it, darting about, that I never did get a picture of it.
Pale Swallowtails (internet picture) were seen everywhere, but I was captivated when they showed up, I always missed getting a picture.
Today was another good Day.
I could get used to this peaceful existence.
